I've bought a lot of cookbooks over the years but this one actually gets used. The health-conscious approach doesn't sacrifice any flavour. That's rare. The callaloo pasta and the coconut porridge are now regulars in our rotation. Highly recommend.

Beyond the kitchen and the storybook, I write to speak up; through articles and personal essays, I use my voice for the things closest to my heart: the safety of women and children, the strength of the Jamaican family, and the courage it takes to break a long silence. Writing has always been how I make sense of the world. It is also how I stand up for it.

My name is Kimberley Irons and today I'm speaking for every woman and child in Jamaica who has ever lived in fear inside their own home.
People often think the hardest part of domestic violence is the abuse itself. Sometimes it isn't. Sometimes the hardest part is finding the courage to speak up and then feeling like nobody is listening.
Domestic violence doesn't just hurt women. It hurts children. It shapes how they see the world, relationships, and even themselves. The trauma follows them long after the violence ends.
We tell victims to report abuse. We tell them to seek help. However, what happens when they do? Are they protected? Do they feel safe? Do they feel heard?
No woman should have to choose between her safety and her silence. I know this issue isn't just a headline. It's real. It's personal and it's affecting families across Jamaica every single day.
I'm calling on our leaders, our communities and our justice system to treat domestic violence with the urgency it deserves.
To every survivor listening: your voice matters. Your story matters and your life matters.
My name is Kimberley Irons and I refuse to stay silent.

A Message from My Heart
From Fear to Power
The plain truth is… if you speak out on anything concerning domestic violence against women and children — you are suddenly Blacklisted. By people who once claimed they “support” you and “love” you — but they only support you in the… darkness.
I can’t blame them, though. I was once afraid… but only because my faith in God was CONSTANTLY TESTED — literally every second of every single day. I had to deal with situations no mother on the face of this earth should ever have to deal with: while pregnant, during postpartum, and while raising my children.
The way I was grown was to be IRON, like a LION in ZION. My mother taught me so well. I thank you, my Queen, and I love you so much.
I will ALWAYS set an example for my girls of what NOT to accept in any relationship concerning a male. I was once cowardly — only when I was exposed to unforgivable, traumatic situations. But with constant prayer, God slowly but surely took that pain away. Whenever it comes back, I pray it away. I write it away.
It took me copious amounts of pain to move from that place of fear… to POWER. Years of fighting — mental battles and physical battles that only God and I knew about.
No matter how I spoke to people, it seemed as if they either couldn’t hear me, or were just too busy in their day-to-day lives… which is okay. I understand. Better yet, I should say — I OVERstand.
This world forces you to work, work, work, work… no breaks, right? Only on the weekend? But… that’s not really fair, is it?
With tears in my eyes as I type, I’m still up at 3:19 am — working, thinking of the next plan to secure more wealth for my girls, my family, and my sacred loved ones. Forever working, even when I’m exhausted, to make ends meet.
In retrospect — I prayed every night. I prayed every hour. I prayed every second, for God to help me and my girls. Sometimes I thought change would never come… that God had forgotten me.
God-fearing women and men, beautiful creatures of the earth — I beg you, stay as close as possible to God. This world is colder than you’d EVER imagine.
Forgive every and anyone who has hurt you in the past. Move forth. And NEVER, EVER look back.
I am looking back… to help you. To show you that you can do it too. I’m still healing — and as I heal myself, I hope to heal others. Both women and men. But I never look back for too long.
It’s now 3:25 am, Monday, June 15, 2026. I have loads of work to do. I’ll be off now.
Don’t ever forget — God will protect you alway$ in ALL WAY$. As long as YOU believe it. Don’t ever stop believing.
I love you ALL
